At Schiphol they were reportedly charged with preparing a terrorist attack. The luggage of the pair Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al-Soofi and Hezam al-Mursi contained box cutters, knives and a cell phone taped to a medicine bottle, three cell phones taped together and several watches taped together. They were allowed to fly out of Chicago aboard United Airlines Flight 908 because they did not carry explosives in their carry-on baggage. Their luggage had been separately directed to Yemen.

Belgian Roman Catholic Cardinal Godfried Danneels secretly taped condoning paedophile sex-abuse silence
The former head of the Roman Catholic Church in Belgium tried to stop a victim of sex abuse from going public with his story, Church spokesman Jurgen Mettepenningen has confirmed. During a meeting in April 2010, Cardinal Godfried Danneels advised the victim to delay a public statement until the Bishop of Bruges, Roger Vangheluwe (73), who had abused him, had retired. On the tape, Danneels is heard telling the abuse victim: "It might be better to wait for a date in the next year, when he is due to resign. I don't know if there will be much to gain from making a lot of noise about this, neither for you nor for him." Vangheluwe, who was also at the secretly taped meeting, admitted to the abuse and resigned on Friday 23rd April 2010.

This most recent disclosure follows upon a coordinated series of Belgian police paedophile sex investigation raids on Roman Catholic premises in Belgium on Thursday 24th June 2010. These raids included one (picture here) which involved thirty Belgian police officers and dog-handlers securing the palace of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels, where Cardinal Godfried Danneels used to be based. Simultaneously, police swoop teams were deployed to two other Roman Catholic locations in the Brussels area.

Four hundred and fifty detailed submissions to a special commission set up to examine complaints of Roman Catholic child abuse in the Mechelen-Brussels archdiocese premises were impounded by the Belgian police. One hundred of these are understood to be regarded as confidential by the Roman Catholic Church in Belgium.

During the June 24th raids, Godfried Danneels computer was seized and two tombs in St Rumbold's Cathedral, Grote Markt, Mechelen, were broken into by police looking for concealed chambers and hidden documents. The tombs were those of Cardinal Jozef-Ernest van Roey (1874-1961) and Cardinal Leo Jozef Suenens (1904-1996), late archbishops of the archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. The investigations continue.
