Introduction The following is a gathering of lessons learned on items of equipment either within the PEO Soldier domain or closely related to current or planned PEO programs. These were gathered by the PEO Soldier Liaison to the ASA(ALT)-SWA Operations Cell which accompanied a team from the Science and Technology community conducting a similar mission for AMC, and RDECOM. The lessons were gathered from 5 through 10 May 2003 from soldiers serving in the Baghdad sector during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Comments came from Brigade Commanders down to riflemen. The following units were interviewed:
Brigade headquarters was informed and granted permission to conduct interviews at the company level. The brigade issued a FRAGO to subordinate units and arranged link up times. Once the team arrived in company areas of operations they gathered available soldiers, typically 7 to 10, and conduct interviews for approximately 90 minutes. An effort was made to capture observations from soldiers with a wide variety of MOS's and experiences. The team questioned airborne, air assault and mechanized infantrymen, armored soldiers from both armored battalions and cavalry squadrons, and clerks, mechanics, and medical personnel in the support battalion. | Soldiers from the 2d BCT, 82d ABN FSB, Baghdad, Iraq The timing was very fortuitous. In almost all cases, the team members were the first external visitors to the unit. Soldiers were fresh off combat operations and were just beginning the stability and support phase of the operation. They were very interested in relating their experiences and thoughts on how equipment could be improved. They recognized that the equipment provided significant combat overmatch against the combatants they encountered enroute to and in Baghdad. However, all soldiers know there is always room for improvement. In this spirit, this document will capture their feelings on what worked well and what can be improved as well as their ideas on how the deficiencies can be corrected. The team recorded the soldier's comments as accurately as possible Lubricant: Soldiers provided consistent comments that CLP was not a good choice for weapon's maintenance in this environment. The sand is a fine as talcum powder here. The CLP attracted the sand to the weapon. Soldiers considered a product called Militec to be a much better solution for lubricating individual and crew-served weapons. |

Government Abuse Page Created on April 1, 2007 - Updated April 2nd and 3rd
Supporting the troops means listening to them and issuing the gear they want and need. This can only be done by "holding account" the status quo bureaucrats that want to stay employed or get a new job after their retirement. You do not get ahead in government by bucking the status quo.
1. The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD-IG) is supposed to be politically neutral and non partisan.
Page 18 of the DoD-IG document (p 23 in ADOBE PDF), Appendix F, Small Arms Center, “top 10 issue areas,” point 6 Cleaning. "A little Cleaner, Lubricant, Preservative does wonders, not MILTEC." Is this "added comment" by the IG loyalty to the system, or is this loyalty to their non partisan and politically neutral job? Some problems with this report is summarized @ nadeau/auditreport1.html
DoD IG HTML Version | PDF Version | Problems with IG report
Four years ago Militec Inc. contacted the DoD IG and Director Trahan did nothing.
http://www.militec1.com/Thompson21.html LTG Thompson blessed the DoD-IG report and convinced his boss to sign off on it
http://www.militec1.com/mildocs/statement_facts.html Director Trahan @ the DoD-IG received this factual document on September 19, 2003
2. Major General Roger A. Nadeau believes MilSpec CLP should be the only product used by our troops in combat and weapons should be cleaned up to eight (8) times a day - even though the weapons have never been fired. http://www.militec1.com/RogerANadeau.html
3. Patrick J. Finegan's Letter to Militec,Inc.- May 31, 2006 | Unethical Conduct by DSCR | (PDF)
Mr. Patrick Finegan's unethical conduct is one reason why our troops still cannot get the gear they need to do their job. As long as Patrick Finegan can play judge and jury and hide behind his battery of government lawyers, the system will stay broken until the proper oversight is instigated by Congress.
The Defense Supply Center, (DSCR) is broken and Mr. Patrick Finegan should be held accountable for shafting our troops and my company.
I will continue to fight the system bureaucrats that place their comfortable jobs over the immediate needs of our troops in combat. This page will be constantly updated to include other federal agencies and individuals that abuse their power.

The Ultra - Premium Extreme Pressure
Multi - Purpose
Lithium - Complex Grease
BENEFITS OF MILITEC-1 GREASE
- Reduced maintenance, extended lubricating intervals, increased equipment life
- Reduction in operating temperatures - typically 10°F to 25°F
- Extended bearing life - as much as 35% to 50%
- Reduces corrosion, wear and galling
- Stays in place and lubricates in the most severe conditions
- Extremely wide variety of applications
- Compatible with other lithium complex greases
- Versatile temperature ranges
- Bearings remain lubricated even after the grease is used
- Prevents rust and oxidation
- Excellent water washout resistance
- Superior shock-load protection
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
All Automotive and Fleet applications, including all Universal and CV joints, Chassis, Wheel Bearing, High-Temp Disc Brake, Steering Gear, Water Pump, Fifth wheel, etc.
All "Off-Road" equipment used in Agriculture, Construction, Logging, and Mining where maximum protection against extreme shock loading and/or severe water washout is required.
All Industrial applications, including conveyor belts, rock crushers, lumber mills, sand and gravel screens, oil field and offshore drilling equipment, marine deck equipment, etc.
FORMULATION OF MILITEC-1 GREASE
MILITEC-1 GREASE is made from very finest ingredients available. We use only premier-quality polymers, the best high-viscosity base oils, advanced anti-wear agents, natural rust inhibitors and superior lithium-complex soap thickeners.
If we used nothing more than these fine ingredients, our grease would be equal or superior to any grease in the world. However, the final manufacturing step sets MILITEC-1 GREASE apart. We finish our blending by adding 15% MILITEC-1 Metal Conditioner by weight. MILITEC-1 Metal Conditioner is unique in its ability to form a physical and chemical bond within all metal surfaces.
The result, MILITEC-1 GREASE, is unsurpassed in improving mechanical efficiency, reducing downtime, and preventing catastrophic failure.
Extended Grease Intervals
With MILITEC-1 GREASE, the frequency of re-greasing can be reduced in most applications. Since the MILITEC-1 Metal Conditioner contained in MILITEC-1 GREASE provides most of the lubrication, the grease itself does less actual work. The great reduction in internal friction, heat and wear means the grease maintains its original chemical and physical properties longer. Since the grease does not degrade as rapidly, it does not need to be replaced as frequently.
The result? MILITEC-1 GREASE lasts longer than other greases, extending routine maintenance intervals.
The benefits of MILITEC-1’s long-term lubrication potential are obvious in regular maintenance cycles. Our customers tell us they save not only in terms of time and labor, but they also cut expenditures on unscheduled down time.
Versatility
MILITEC-1 GREASE is extremely versatile. It can be used in an unusually broad range of applications. MILITEC-1 GREASE excels whether it is used in low-load, low-temperature operations such as vehicle U-joints; or the high loads and high temperatures typically found in large industrial gear and bearing systems.
Effectiveness
MILITEC-1 GREASE is uniquely effective. MILITEC-1 GREASE provides lubrication in extreme out-of-parameter circumstances that would cause other greases to fail. As the MILITEC-1 Metal Conditioner in the base grease migrates into the metal surface, it reacts chemically within the metal and becomes part of the metal. The result is constant molecularly-bonded lubrication throughout the entire greased mechanical component - even if the grease is lost.
Summary
MILITEC-1 GREASE improves efficiency, extends equipment life, reduces downtime and helps protect against unscheduled maintenance. MILITEC-1 GREASE will improve your "bottom line" by reducing energy usage, reducing maintenance costs, and reducing capital equipment replacement.
