A U.S. soldier on active duty in Iraq has called President Obama an "impostor" in a statement in which he affirmed plans to join as plaintiff in a challenge to Obama's eligibility to be commander in chief.
The statement was publicized by California attorney Orly Taitz who, along with her Defend Our Freedom Foundation, is working on a series of legal cases seeking to uncover Obama's birth records and other documents that would reveal whether he meets the requirements of the U.S. Constitution.
"As an active-duty officer in the United States Army, I have grave concerns about the constitutional eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to hold the office of president of the United States," wrote Scott Easterling in a "to-whom-it-may-concern" letter.

JERUSALEM – The Obama administration's reported pick for a top intelligence post has financial ties to the infamous bin Laden family – including dealings after Sept. 11, 2001.
Charles "Chas" Freeman, the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War, is slated to head the National Intelligence Council, according to multiple reports. Freeman has come under fire in the Israeli media and on some pro-Israel blogs for his sharp criticism of the Jewish state. He also reportedly heavily criticized American anti-terrorism policy.
Now Ashley Rinsdberg, a Jerusalem-based researcher and blogger for the Daily Beast website has dug up another issue that may cause even bigger worry for the likely Obama appointee – he had business ties to Osama bin Laden's family and strongly defended the connections after 9/11.
Rindsberg documented how as chairman of Projects International, Inc., a company that develops worldwide business deals, Freeman declared in an Associated Press interview just after the 9/11 attacks he was still "discussing proposals with the Bin Laden Group – and that won't change."

World's economies tumbling like dominoes
Almost everybody now realizes how grave the crisis has become. But we won't be able to escape from this dark place until we understand how we got here.
Lately, I have been struck by how bleak and black the newspapers have been in their coverage of the economy. Not that I've been surprised, but one can never know when events in the economy will coalesce into the news that causes the masses to realize how difficult the environment is.
In reading the papers, it was obvious to me that it's becoming clear to everyone that "the next time down" is well under way, though the average person wouldn't call it that.
1980-82 versus now
I was trying to remember the last time I had seen the economic news quite as ugly. For me, the 1980-82 period is the closest example I have lived through. Of course, it was quite a bit different. Many of the problems were a function of sky-high interest rates induced by then-Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker (a consequence of money-supply targets, not interest-rate targets) to break the back of inflation. Also, the world looked a lot different, as the Soviet Union was still in existence and capitalism was not yet a gleam in the eye of the communists in China.What we are now dealing with is roughly 20 years' worth of massive speculation and excess leverage, championed by the United States and mimicked by other countries around the globe. It appears the potential for the newest round of financial weakness is being precipitated by economic problems in Eastern Europe, which are impacting the European banks, especially German ones.
We are at the stage now where economic weakness is feeding back into everything, making the situation more difficult for banks everywhere. And, it's becoming clear to nearly everyone that many banks are not just illiquid but insolvent.

These two weeks of training are also a contradiction of military tradition against deployments among the civilian population dating back to the end of the Civil War. Why then are the citizens of Indianapolis and six other Indiana towns being made to take part in two weeks of patrols and ambushes?

The global financial crisis claimed its first EU victim as Latvia’s government resigned last Friday. Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis submitted his resignation to the president after the two largest parties in the ruling four-party coalition demanded that he go. President Valdis Zatlers said his country may even need snap elections to restore political order.
Latvia has been hit hard by the financial crisis. On January 13 it experienced its worst protest since the fall of the ussr. What began as a peaceful protest of around 10,000 disgruntled citizens turned violent as the main demonstration drew to a close. Hundreds of rioters marched on the parliament building. Some even tried to storm it before being repelled by riot-control police.

The economies of Eastern Europe are in dire trouble. They have borrowed $1.7 trillion from abroad, most in the form of short-term debt. Four-hundred billion dollars—around one third of the region’s total gross domestic product—must be paid back or rolled over this year.
Without help, this is simply impossible.
It gets worse. Almost all of this money is owed to Western Europe, meaning this situation could further destabilize Western European economies and likely spark another major financial blaze in what is already a catastrophic global financial firestorm.
It would be foolish to underestimate the significance of this crisis.

After Labor and Kadima leader Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni refused to join his wall-t-wall national government, Israel's designated prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu has launched negotiations for a centrist government coalition supported by a parliamentary majority of 65 members of the right-of-center and religious parties. Three or four ministers will be drawn from outside political parties: Nathan Sharansky is Netanyahu's choice for the foreign ministry; governor of the Bank of Israel Stanley Fisher may be offered finance and a professional soldier or security figure is sought for defense.
The cabinet-making process was speeded up after Avigdor Lieberman, whose Israel Beteini endorsed Netanyahu's bid, decided he is not after any of those fiercely-contested top jobs. He prefers the ministry of industry, commerce and labor, with the possible addition of infrastructure and honorific of deputy prime minister.
Sharansky, a respected world figure whom the Soviet government sentenced to hard labor as a human rights activist and founder of the Jewish Refusenik movement in Moscow, was released in East Germany in 1986 and settled in Israel.
He served in various cabinet posts until 2006, when he established the Adelson Institute for Strategic Studies of the Shalem Institute, named for its sponsor the American tycoon Sheldon Adelson. One of its major projects is the promotion of democracy in Palestinian society. The former chief of staff and Likud newcomer (Ret.) Gen. Moshe Yaalon, a research associate, is one of the frontrunners for defense.
Sharanksy has won bipartisan US honors, including the 1986 Congressional Gold Medal and the 2008 Ronald Reagan Freedom Award and is exceptionally well connected with policy-shaping institutions in America. Sharansky would be a persuasive spokesman for the Netanyahu government's policies, especially on Palestinian issues, who would be heeded with respect by foreign governments.
The Likud leader is still in the early stages of lining up his cabinet and has not clinched any appointments as yet.

Texas National Guard on High Alert
Texas State Senator, Dan Patrick, was on FoxNews this morning at 8:45am. He said he had some “breaking news to share”. Boy was it!!! The Texas State Legislature had been trying very hard to get the Obama Administration to respond to a critical situation on the Texas Border. The Administration had not gotten back with Texas as of last night. So the State of Texas told Washington D.C. basically they could go jump, and “we’ll take care of Texas!”. As of last night… the Texas National Guard has been put on High Alert!!! This is the first time in history! Texas tried, desperately to get Washington’s approval… but when they could not get it… they acted on their own. Which I say…. it’s about damn time!!! Tzipi Livni twists Netanyahu's arm for two-state solution
DEBKAfile's military sources report that Sunday, Feb. 22, the Palestinian Authority on orders from chairman Mahmoud Abbas began releasing Hamas terrorists detained as part of his commitment to join forces with Israel to combat Palestinian terror. Abbas did not consult Israel before freeing the first batch of 21 prisoners.
In the Gaza Strip, Hamas began releasing activists of Abbas' Fatah.
Our sources reveal that, under pressure from Washington, prime minister Ehud Olmert and foreign minister Tzipi Livni agreed to their transfer to the West Bank, where they took part in a conference of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's executive committee last Saturday.
DEBKAfile's military sources warn that the reopening of the covert corridor to terrorist traffic between the West Bank and Gaza Strip is a recipe for the revival of Palestinian attacks against central Israel, Hamas' long-held goal.
While Israel's unity talks stumble forward, the rival Palestinian Fatah and Hamas are on a fast-moving secret track towards a power-sharing accord.
It is Abbas' intention to unveil his Palestinian unity administration simultaneously with the presentation of Binyamin Netanyahu's broad national government. By this means, he expects to maneuver the Americans into non-cooperation with Israel unless its new government swallows the Hamas component of a legitimate Palestinian government.
Hamas, for its part, is making hay. Not only are the Islamist fundamentalists not asked to meet international demands and give up their avowed aim to destroy Israel, they have cornered Abbas by requiring him to give up his security partnership with the United States and Israel. He has responded with a directive to Fatah negotiators to promise that their joint regime will in time edge out of this partnership.
The undercover Palestinian moves climax Wednesday, Feb. 25 at a formal Palestinian reconciliation conference in Cairo chaired by Egypt's intelligence minister and senior Palestinian negotiator Gen. Omar Suleiman.
Cairo has reopened Gaza's Rafah gateway for three days as a gesture to Hamas.
Abbas is therefore moving along his own underhand track unrelated to the Palestinian pretext Kadima's Livni is using to opt out of Netanyahu's coalition government. She wants him to commit to the two-state solution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict as his government's top priority. Netanyahu argues that the Olmert-Livni talks with Abbas over many months got nowhere, while the perils posed by Iran and its advance on Israel's borders are immediate and existential.
Some of Livni's key associates in Kadima have launched their own freelance approach to Abbas. It aims at discrediting the Netanyahu administration from the moment he presents his lineup to the president. At that moment, on their advice, Palestinian Authority leaders will announce the break-off of contacts with Israel until the new Israeli prime minister publicly states his commitment to a Palestinian state living side by side with Israel and a halt to settlement expansion.
Livni's close circle is thus hoping to use the Palestinians as a blunderbuss to beat the Netanyahu government into accepting Kadima's point of view or face international condemnation.

WASHINGTON – A U.S. senator has weighed in on the continuing controversy over Barack Obama's eligibility for office by saying he has never seen proof the new president was actually born in Hawaii.
"Well, his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven't seen any birth certificate," Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told constituents in Cullman County. "You have to be born in America to be president."
WND has reported on multiple legal challenges to Obama's status as a "natural born citizen." The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."
Some question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.
Other challenges have focused on Obama's citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

When we think of the word "chaos," normally we associate it with spontaneous acts of malcontents rebelling without a cause.
But most of the chaos in the world today is what I call "directed chaos" – usually government-directed and with one single-minded purpose: the consolidation of power.
That's the way I interpret the so-called "economic stimulus" legislation approved by the Democrat-controlled Congress and signed by President Obama.
There is no way it will stimulate the economy. It will have the opposite effect – lengthening and deepening the economic crisis in which America finds itself.
Does anyone truly believe we're in this mess because the U.S. government didn't spend enough recently? Of course not. Congress and President Bush spent money like drunken sailors. They caused this calamity because of their irresponsibility and their disregard for the Constitution. Can the cure possibly more of the same? I don't think so.
But take a look at how the money will be spent, for evidence of the "cure" is actually worse than the disease.
Of the $800 billion in the so-called "stimulus" bill, only $90 billion will actually go toward things like building highways, upgrading the electrical power grid or meaningful business tax cuts. Far more, however, will be used to revive welfare as we used to know it. Some $264 billion will be directed to encouraging states to sign up more people on welfare.
But it gets worse. This welfare is worse than the old one that everyone – Democrats and Republicans alike – agreed to dismantle in the 1990s.
It's called the "Make Work Pay" program, and it includes $23 billion per year to provide up to $500 cash to low-income adults who pay no taxes. The program will mark the first time the federal government will hand out significant cash to able-bodied adults without dependent children!

WASHINGTON – A land management bill that swept through the U.S. Senate last month and is headed for a House vote this week punishes rock collectors and paleontologists with arrest and expropriation of their cars and other equipment for even unknowingly disturbing fossils on public land, say critics.
In the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, a "forfeiture" provision would let the government confiscate "all vehicles and equipment of any person" who digs up or removes a rock or a bone from federal land that meets the bill's broad definition of "paleontological resource," says a report by Jon Berlau of the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
"The seizures could take place even before a person and even if the person didn't know they were taking or digging up a 'paleontological resource," writes Berlau. "And the bill specifically allows the 'transfer of seized resources' to 'federal or non-federal' institutions, giving the government and some private actors great incentive to egg on the takings."
Tracie Bennitt, president of the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences, is protesting the bill's vague language and severe penalties.
"We can visualize now a group of students unknowingly crossing over an invisible line and ending up handcuffed and prosecuted," she wrote to members of Congress.

The Pakistani government has agreed to let the Taliban impose sharia law on the 5 million people living in the Swat Valley, in exchange for a permanent ceasefire.
The deal was made with Muslim cleric Maulana Sufi Mohammed, but the militants led by his more radical son-in-law have yet to agree to it.
The deal essentially cedes a great swath of Pakistani territory to the Taliban. It includes all of the Malakand region, covering roughly one third of Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province. Joe Klein wrote in Time:
This is terrible news. The Pakistani government has essentially given control of the Swat Valley to the Taliban. It means that the Taliban are now 100 miles from Islamabad and the military center of Rawalpindi. It also means that Pakistan’s North-West Province is well on its way to becoming what Afghanistan used to be—a sanctuary for al Qaeda and related terrorists.
This area is being surrenders to the same people who recently banned girls over grade four from attending school in Swat and threatened to blow up any schools that disobeyed them. Already they have attacked over 180 schools. They behead police and local government officials, and have already driven hundreds of thousands of people out of the region.
America’s war on terror is rapidly spiraling out of control. Pakistan is becoming increasingly unstable, meaning that for President Obama to send tens of thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan, he’ll have to make a deal with Russia or Iran to get them there instead of using the Pakistani route.
