Ahmadinejad inaugurates Iran's first nuclear fuel plant – "We are a nuclear power!"

DEBKAfile Special Report

Covert plutonium production at Arak

Covert plutonium production at Arak

Cutting the ribbon on Iran's first nuclear fuel plant at Isfahan, Thursday, April 9, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad triumphantly marked a major breakthrough at a ceremony marking Iran's fourth national nuclear day. The day after the five UN Security Council powers and Germany offered Tehran economic incentives for negotiations on uranium enrichment, he inaugurated a plant for producing fuel rods for Iran's heavy water plant in Arak and its nuclear reactor in Bushehr, thereby reducing the Islamic Republic's fuel dependence Russia which built the reactor.

DEBKAfile's military sources: The Isfahan plant takes Iran's nuclear reactors another big step outside the purview of international inspections. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which has complained often of Iran's tricks of concealment, will find it doubly difficult to track the uses Iran makes of nuclear fuel the closer it comes to mastering the complete fuel cycle.

Our sources believe that Tehran will have attained this goal before the end of 2009. According to Israeli and Western intelligence sources, this would also put the Arak heavy plant on the fast track for the manufacture of plutonium, alongside the weapons-grade enrichment of uranium.

Ahmadinejad furthermore claimed that Iran had developed a new kind of fast centrifuges for the rapid processing large quantities of enriched uranium.

These disclosures followed the concession announced by US secretary of state Hillary Clinton that her government would be fully involved in the talks with Tehran proposed by the 5+1 powers Wednesday. The first round of talks from 2007 and 2008 petered out when Tehran kept on asking for more time to review the generous incentives on offer and ended up refusing to give up uranium enrichment.

Ahmadinejad's Isfahan announcement told Washington and the other five powers that their offer of talks and incentives for discontinuing nuclear enrichment were now irrelevant; Tehran's nuclear program had progressed way point that point.

DEBKAfile's Iranian sources add that Iran's rulers, having won all the time they needed to bring their nuclear weapons program to fruition, are now made doubly cocky by being courted by the Obama administration's willingness to expand the agenda of their dialogue beyond the nuclear issue to Iran's role in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Tehran calculates that for the sake of its cooperation in resolving these conflicts, the US administration will give way on its nuclear drive.

Disarmament Leads to War

April 9, 2009 | From theTrumpet.com

Despite America’s ambitious attempt to eliminate nuclear weapons, atomic warfare is inevitable.

Disarmament is a noble aspiration. But it can never be “attained by mush, slush and gush,” Winston Churchill exhorted in 1932.

Throughout the 1930s the warning howl of Britain’s lone bulldog was ignored, marginalized to obscurity by a government enamored with the virtues of disarmament. That changed in 1939. On September 1, German bombers began razing Polish cities and Hitler’s impeccably organized, well-trained and heavily rearmed army marched into Poland. Meanwhile, Britain was unprepared and grossly under-armed. Disarmament’s shortcomings were painfully obvious.

Britain’s policy of disarmament had dressed the aggressor and stripped the victims. By doing so, it made conflict inevitable.

The lesson is prescient. Speaking before a live audience of 20,000 in Prague on Sunday, United States President Barack Obama gushed about the “future of nuclear weapons in the 21st century” and America’s “moral responsibility” to “seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.” It was more than mere rhetoric; he articulated a comprehensive strategy for global nuclear disarmament.

Obama's G20 plan kisses off Declaration of Independence
New international board to intervene in decisions about U.S. companies

At the G20 meeting in London, President Obama agreed to create of an international board with authority to intervene in U.S. corporations by dictating executive compensation and approving or disapproving business management decisions, Jerome Corsi's Red Alert reports.

Political consultant Dick Morris said that by agreeing to create the Financial Stability Board, Obama is a "willing accomplice" to a decision that effectively repealed the U.S. Declaration of Independence and abrogated the sovereignty of the United States.

Ready for 2nd Declaration of Independence? Farah releases petition to protect U.S. sovereignty

WASHINGTON – When Barack Obama called for "all nations" in the world to "come together to build a stronger, global regime" to respond to threats like those posed by North Korea's nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, WND's Editor and CEO Joseph Farah had heard enough.

Farah was stunned once again that no major news agencies in the world even deemed to question the administration about what he meant.

It sounded to Farah like Obama was, once again, raising the specter of some form of global governance unaccountable to the American people – a direct threat to U.S. sovereignty and independence.

Doubt about Obama eligibility spreads
Writer concedes 'ambiguities' weren't 'satisfactorily resolved'

The concern over President Obama's eligibility to be president under the U.S. Constitution's demand that the office be occupied by a "natural born" citizen is spreading, with additional writers conceding questions remain about the dispute.

President Obama

"Yes, there were ambiguities about Obama's birth certificate that have never been satisfactorily resolved. And the embargo on Obama's educational records remains troubling," wrote Camille Paglia, a progressive author and columnist at Salon.com.

Her commentary addresses Obama's "painful missteps," and she addressed charges that Obama has suffered from poor advice.

"The buck stops with the top executive. But we all know how little executive experience Barack Obama has had. He was elected for his vision and his steady, deliberative character, not his résumé. For better or worse, Obama is learning as he goes – and surely most fair-minded people would grant him reasonable leeway as he grows into the presidency, one of the hardest jobs in the world," she wrote.

"At a certain point, however, Obama will face an inescapable administrative crux. Arriving at the White House, he understandably stayed in his comfort zone by bringing old friends and allies with him …. But these comrades may not have the practical skills or broad perspective to help Obama govern," wrote Paglia.

Hezbollah Agents Flood Into America

April 8, 2009 | From theTrumpet.com

Iran is using the Mexican drug cartels to smuggle terrorists onto American soil. By Andrew Miiller

Lebanese immigrants from all over Tijuana flocked to the café under the sign with the cedar tree, the emblem of their home country. There they would find Salim Boughader Mucharrafille—the café owner who drove a Mercedes and catered to some of Tijuana’s most affluent denizens, including workers at the U.S. Consulate just a short stroll away. Behind all this facade, however, the savvy boss of La Libanesa cafe ran a less reputable business on the side.

Until the day he was arrested in December 2002, Boughader smuggled about 200 of his Lebanese compatriots across the border into the United States. Many of them were members or supporters of the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah. One client who was smuggled into America even worked for a Hezbollah-owned television network that glorifies suicide bombers and is on an American terror watch list.

The most disturbing part about this smuggling operation is that it wasn’t unique. Boughader may have been locked up, yet the threat posed by Hezbollah-affiliated migrants crossing the border into the U.S. has never been more serious.

Former chief of operations at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Michael Braun, has confirmed that Hezbollah has formed a partnership with the drug cartels in Mexico and is using the cartel smuggling routes to get people and contraband into the U.S.

“They work together,” Braun told the Washington Times. “They rely on the same shadow facilitators. One way or another, they are all connected.”

Braun’s comments were confirmed by six other American officials, including law enforcement, defense and counterterrorism specialists.

The smuggling routes used by the Mexican drug lords are growing more sophisticated as more money pours into their hands from American drug users. Some cross-border tunnels are now located nine stories underground and equipped with lighting, ventilation and groundwater drainage systems. Hezbollah agents are infiltrating the U.S. through these organized smuggling routes. This is a major national security threat to America.

The leaders in Iran are cooperating with populist demagogues in Latin American countries like Venezuela and Bolivia in an attempt to undermine America. When Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in 2006, he embraced him and saluted “all revolutionaries who oppose world hegemony.” Yet, as the National Review Online reports, “The public love-fest between Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez is just the tip of a sinister iceberg.”

Weekly flights between Iran and Venezuela are not monitored for personnel or cargo. It was this type of negligence that turned the Beirut International Airport into a terrorist hub in the late 1980s. Turkish customs officials found lab equipment for making explosives in a container labeled “tractor parts” en route from Iran to Venezuela earlier this year. What other deadly shipments have the Iranians sent to America’s southern neighbors that have not been intercepted?

“We have seen … an increase in a wide level of activity by the Iranian government in this region,” Navy Adm. James Stavridis, who oversees U.S. military interests in the region as head of U.S. Southern Command, said last month. “That is a concern principally because of the connections between the government of Iran, which is a state sponsor of terrorism, and Hezbollah.”

Connect the dots and it becomes apparent that the mullahs of Iran are cooperating with the caudillos of Latin America in order to get aid and supplies to the Hezbollah operatives stationed in the region. These Hezbollah agents in turn are cooperating with local drug cartel networks as a means of raising funds and getting into the U.S. undetected.

According to Braun, members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have also recently been showing up in Latin America. “Quite frankly, I’m not opposed to the belief that they could be commanding and controlling Hezbollah’s criminal enterprises from there,” he said.

So far, there has been no major Hezbollah-initiated terrorist strike on American soil. Yet, just as Iran directed Hezbollah to hold off from joining the Hamas-led offensive against Israel last January, so Iran could be directing Hezbollah to hold off on any strike against America until other things are in place. This much is for certain: Hezbollah operatives have infiltrated the U.S. by using drug cartel smuggling routes, and these operatives want to see America fall.

Iran has the capacity to unleash a massive wave of suicide strikes and terrorist attacks against America. This would in turn unleash untold social chaos across the nation.

Saudis also dismayed by Obama's seeming tolerance of nuclear Iran

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

April 7, 2009, 10:15 AM (GMT+02:00)

A chilly encounter

A chilly encounter

President Barack Obama's declaration in the Turkish parliament Monday, April 6, that the US is not at war with Islam provided cold comfort in Riyadh and Cairo, where his drastic policy shift of détente with Tehran, first revealed by DEBKA-Net-Weekly last month, is causing jitters.

The Financial Times' prediction that the US "may cede to Iran's nuclear ambition" only added to the unease in the Middle East at large.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in London, Saudi King Abdullah made his views known in a face-to-face interview with the US president on April 2. The White House communiqué reported blandly: Obama and Abdullah discussed international cooperation regarding the global economy, regional political and security issues, and cooperation against terrorism.

Iran was not mentioned. However, according to DEBKAfile's Middle East sources, Abdullah took the US president sternly to task over his emerging policy on Iran, Syria and Iraq, accusing him to giving the Islamic Republic free rein for its nuclear, expansionist and terrorism-sponsoring Middle East policies.

Both parties tried to keep their abrasive encounter away from the public eye and their media, although the photo attached betrays its chilly atmosphere.

The Financial Times was the first Western mainstream publication to pick up on the new pro-Iran policy trend dominating Obama's Washington: "US officials are considering whether to accept Iran's pursuit of uranium enrichment… discussing whether the US will eventually have to accept Iran's insistence on carrying out the process."

The newspaper quoted Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council as warning: "The US may still have zero as its opening position [in its dialogue with Iran], while recognizing it may not be where things stand at the end of a potential agreement."

DEBKAfile's military sources fear that Tehran has been given a free run to perfect its ability to make bombs and warheads in the shortest possible time from the moment of decision.

Our sources report that the US president's two-day stay in Ankara and his words of peace towards the Muslim world were seen in Riyadh and Cairo as ignoring the most pressing concerns of the leading Muslim Arab powers of the region.

Israeli leaders have been less reticent about their concerns. President Shimon Peres pointed out to visiting US congressmen in Jerusalem Monday that Iran has hoodwinked the entire world in its drive for a nuclear bomb whose main target would be the Jewish state; Israel's population is short of adequate means of self-defense. Deputy Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Dan Harel warned that a nuclear-armed Iran would shield Middle East terror groups, so magnifying the threat to Israel manifold. But, he added, the IDF was fully capable of backing up any government decision to tackle this existential threat.

Prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu diplomatically praised President Obama for his renewed commitment to Israeli security, omitting mention of Iran in the same way as he ignored the US president's demand for a Palestinian state to rise alongside Israel in his speech to parliament in Ankara. Netanyahu commented that his new government is in the process of formulating its policies. This left him an opening to dispute administration polices when he arrives in Washington on May 3.

Analyst warns eligibility could become flashpoint
'It is morphing now to include members of the armed forces'

President Obama

A security analyst who provides intelligence information to a wide range of law enforcement, private corporation and security interests has written in a publicly released "white paper" that the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president could become a "flashpoint" in the United States.

The suggestion comes from Lyle Rapacki, a former police officer who has worked in the field of psychological disorders for years. Since the 1990s, he has provided his analysis, both in public "white paper" reports as well as classified documents, to various safety and security interests.

Rapacki's report cited the continuing controversy over Obama's birth certificate and a long list of lawsuits that have alleged he is not eligible to be president under the Constitution's requirement that the office be occupied only by a "natural born" citizen.

If the president would be found to be ineligible, Rapacki suggested, there would be a "constitutional crisis" over which of his orders, laws and actions "should be valid."

Why are there still questions about qualifications? Arguments of president's defenders never actually addressed eligibility

Portrait of President Obama featured on Wikipedia

In the last few months, dozens of U.S. courts have dismissed legal challenges to Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to occupy the Oval Office, and even the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hold a hearing on the evidence – but what have the courts actually cited as reasons for dismissing the concerns of millions of Americans?

Mootness, lack of jurisdiction, lack of responsibility, lack of standing, a series of "no comments" and even the fact the issue has been "twittered."

The one subject that has been avoided to date has been whether or not the president is, in fact, eligible.

So far, there have been two definitive statements on the issue that have been made public, including one from an Obama campaign spokeswoman talking about the challenges who told WND, "All I can tell you is that it is just pure garbage."

The other is from Chiyome Fukino, the director of the Hawaiian Department of Health, who issued a statement, "I as Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."

WASHINGTON -- Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.

The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven't sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

"The Chinese have attempted to map our infrastructure, such as the electrical grid," said a senior intelligence official. "So have the Russians."
