How sick is Nancy Pelosi?

Here’s something interesting a friend said to us on the phone last night:
“I think you are right that Obama will use illness as an excuse not to run for a second term if he thinks he can’t win. His ego is too big to run and lose, so he will walk away to hit the paid speaking circuit. Since he loves to hear himself talk, he’ll make a billion dollars and be happier than he ever dreamed, droning on and on. Perhaps he’ll take over the Race Industry from Jackson and Sharpton and make his money that way, too. I don’t think he’lll use Parkinson’s as his cover. I think it will be lung cancer. BUT, I do believe Nancy Pelosi has Parkinson’s and that 2010 would be the last time she runs for Congress. I think she’s too far along in the disease to go much further beyond that. My friends in San Francisco say they hear rumors Pelosi wants her daughter to take her seat from her. I don’t know how things work in California, and if she can just give her seat to someone like that, or if it’s special election or Governor’s appointment, but that’s what people think will happen.”
When we pressed him about why he thinks Pelosi has Parkinson’s, he said:
“I’ve been around Parkinson’s patients most of my life because my husband’s family has some afflicted members and growing up I had an aunt with it. Whenever Pelosi is most stressed, she can’t control her shaking. Watch her hands. During the height of the Hillary vs. Obama primary match, Pelosi was incredibly stressed. Whenever she’d be on TV, she almost had to sit on her hands. Her eyes twitch. She shakes. She loses her train of thought easily.
People attribtute that to her being stupid, but you don’t become Speaker by being stupid. You don’t get to be as rich as you are by being stupid. But, in Denver at the Convention Pelosi was rattled and addled in person. I talked to her and her eyes glaze over after a minute of speaking. She has about 90 seconds geting a thought out before her brain runs out of words to say. She needs notes to stay focused. When you are close to her in person, you can literally see the panic starting to form on her face as she realizes she doesn’t remember what she just said or what’s going to come next. If it’s not Parkinson’s, it’s Alzheimers. There is something really wrong with her.”
Now, one of the problems we readily admit is that none of us here are medical professionals. When we’ve dealt extensively with people who have an illness, we tend to look for that same illness in other people…because we are so familiar with it. After losing a friend to prostate cancer this summer, and seeing other people we know suffer with cancer this year, we are all about people getting odd moles checked out or going to a doctor for colonoscopies and other tests to make sure they can catch any tumors early. One of us, Sebastian, was partnered to someone with Asperger’s Syndrome (a form of social-skills affecting autism), and we tend to look at anyone with poor manners or a seeming determination to insult and offend others as another potential ASpie, just like Sebastian’s ex David.
We volunteer with a lot of AIDS sufferers, and see the same “look” in the faces of most people we know who’ve been afflicted with the disease for some time. When we see people on TV who look gaunt, haggard, and have the telltale lines down the sides of their faces, and the little pot belly that goes with it, oddly, like Rahm Emanuel has, we wonder if they’re sick too. Especially if, here in Chicago, we’ve heard stories for years about all the things that person has gotten up to, going all the way back to Studio 54 in the 70s.
We haven’t noticed the Parkinson’s signs in Pelosi. We do, however, see them in Dr. Utopia…who makes us think of Muhammad Ali and how he behaved at the very beginning of his own symptoms, before he made an official announcement. With Pelosi, our gut says she’s more likely to have Alzheimers.
Once our friend mentioned that, it makes a lot more sense. We’ve known two people who suffered with forms of dementia, but have never known an Alzheimer’s patient personally. We are speaking seriously, not joking at all, when we say that yes, truthfully, it does appear Pelosi is suffering from something that addles her, clouds her judgment, makes her say ridiculous things, and causes her to lose her train of thought and act erratically.
We believe Democrats will lose Congress in 2010…and that Pelosi will soon retire after that. Our friend thinks she won’t even run for Congress again in 2010. We believe she’ll commit to this one last race…and, knowing her, bet she will indeed try to line up her daughter to succeed her.
Has anyone else been paying attention to Pelosi’s health? She’s so painful to watch on TV that we avoid her whenever possible, but now that our friend said this, we’re going to be paying more attention to the shaking, the ticks, and the addled behavior to see if we can spot any more clues.

The city of Gilbert, Ariz., has ordered a group of seven adults to stop gathering for Bible studies in a private home because such meetings are forbidden by the city's zoning codes.
The issue was brought to a head when city officials wrote a letter to a pastor and his wife informing them they had 10 days to quit having the meetings in their private home.
The ban, however, prompted a response from the Alliance Defense Fund, which filed an appeal with the city as the first step in its campaign to overturn a provision it describes as illegal.
